| To all Travellers of the Olympic
Country,
Welcome to the very late edition of the Oz Travel
Bytes. I must apologise for the delay in this letter but I have been locked in cryogenic isolation for the last month with the wintry weather here in Perth. For a town that has the most amazing summers anywhere in Australia it sure does get cold here. However to be perfectly honest I must say I enjoy the winter as it is nice to be inside watching a video without feeling guilty that I am wasting a beautiful day. Anyway spring is just around the corner and another 8 months of summer is going to be fully appreciated.
Go North,
Young Man!
With the south of WA being cold means that the North is running hot in the middle of its peak season. The Kimberley region is going off at the moment with the opening of the Kalumburu Road giving access to the Mitchell Falls on the North coast of the Kimberley. If you enjoy your geology you will love this region as its ancient history, dating way back to when our world was one land mass called Pangea and massive rivers help create such famous and distant sites as Uluru (Ayers Rock for those culturally unaware). Mitchell falls is one of the most remote destinations you can get to in Australia and also one of the most amazing. One of the best cold beers I ever had was here, camped close to the falls with the fire blazing and the sun setting over the Timor sea.
Kimberley tours which include many other amazing destinations start at $1100.00 for 9 Days 4WD action and need to be booked at least 1 month in advance to avoid disappointment.
Also worth seriously considering are the Perth to Darwin tours, which really are the best way to see the West Coast and the Kimberley in all its glory.
Wildflowers
and Whales
While on the subject of the West Coast and with September only around the corner, we are about to hit two important
seasons; the Wildflower Season and the Whale Watching Season. Both of these seasons are unique to Western Australia and offer the visitor the opportunity to be surrounded by some of our unique beauty. Right now there appears to be a heap of wildflowers on the
6-day journey to Alice Springs from
Perth, giving a rare insight to this already unique opportunity to visit Central Oz from Perth. I have just had a word with the owner of the company who runs this tour, and if you book through the website for the months of August and September we will provide a
FREE return to
Perth. Hence making the return journey from Perth to Perth, including Ayers Rock (Uluru), Olgas (Kata Tjuta) and Kings Canyon for only $699.00. (Save $250.00).
Whale Watching is a specialty of the South West of WA. We predominantly see
Humpbacks and Right Whales in September and this is a breeding ground for them so it is an eco-fantasy. Most of the tours around the
South West will make time for whale watching in their itineraries or you can travel independently to any of the towns renowned for whale watching
i.e. Augusta, Albany, and Dunsborough.
Kakadu
and Cental Oz
The Northern territory is absolutely jumping at the moment with Kakadu in the middle of its dry season and Jim Jim and Twin Falls being the highlight. There are some
amazing tours available to see this 4WD area ranging from 3 Day to 21-Day tours. All of the Central Oz area is experiencing pre-Olympic rushes with
Uluru and the
Olga's tours requiring advance purchase of about 2 weeks. There are a lot of options on our website for these areas so I won't go into it too much. I am doing a tour next week in Central Oz and get to be the tour guide so I will brief you on that next month.
Secure
Site for Encrypted Bookings
We've improved our site security recently and now have what our
web-bloke calls a "Secure Socket Layer". It sounds like
something you plug in the stereo into to me, but the he reckons that all
our on-line bookings are now encrypted to ensure security of credit card
numbers and the like. When you go to any of our booking forms you'll now
see a little padlock appear at the bottom of the browser window. Meanwhile I hope you all travel safely and look forward to seeing you here in Western Australia as we come into spring. Don't forget that
our Internet access is now the cheapest in Australia a $1 per hour and FREE if you have booked any tours with us. Bye for now, Pete, Kev, Paul & Scotty
