Oz Travel-Bytes #1 |
(Feb 2000) |
| G'day to all our members and a big hello to all the interesting people who visited Peter & Paul at the "Independent Travellers World Exhibition" in London and Edinburgh. We trust you found the show informative and are now 'chomping at the bit' for more information on what to see and do in the smallest continent and largest island in the world.
The Travellers Club, if you don't know us already, is based in Perth, Western Australia and offers travellers informative information on how to explore Australia the way it should be done. We believe that Perth offers the best gateway into Australia and gives any traveller the opportunity explore the beauties of the Western half of Australia before they reach the inevitable traps of the Eastern Coast and its large cities. Not to mention that the airfares are cheaper to Perth from Europe than any other Aussie city. It is also a great way to enter Australia from Africa on your round the world ticket. Anyway, lets talk briefly about a few things that are happening here in Oz that might be interesting to those of you coming out in the next month or so. Dry Season Coming in the NorthWith Australia now on the back half of its summer months it is now time to consider what to do in the northern parts of Western Oz and the Northern Territory. The monsoonal rains are due to finish in April and that means the opening up of The Kimberley's and Kakadu National Park The Kimberley's are in the northern tip of Western Australia and offer travellers some of the most remote and spectacular scenery in the country. The aboriginal paintings found there are the most unique and ancient in the world, and areas like the Bungle Bungles and Mitchell Falls are areas you will never forget. It is truly an adventure not to miss and can only be seen in its entirety by participating in one of the many extremely professional tours of the area. The season opens in April and bookings are very busy. Tours depart from Perth and from Broome and can range from 7 Days to 24 Days and should be booked at least a month in advance to guarantee departure dates. For more information, click here. Whale Sharks and Ningaloo ReefOne of the largest ocean-going fish in the world is the "Whale Shark". It is a spectacular creature that offers those of you into your marine life and diving the seasonal opportunity to swim up close. The season begins in April and lasts for about 2 Months and is one of the many unique diving opportunities here in WA. The dive expeditions operate from Exmouth on the West Coast and it is here that you will find the Ningaloo Reef and one of the great spots to do your dive license. (Not to mention one of the cheapest, prices start from A$260. for a 5 Day Open Water Course). More info can be found at here. More Colours in The Red Centre! If you have been watching the news in Australia you would have noticed the massive amount of water that has fallen in the Centre of Australia. Over 9OOmm has fallen in the last week and that has caused floods not equaled since 1974. While this puts a strain on the travellers that are the now, it gives those of you going there in the next month or so the opportunity to witness the reaction from the deserts of this region to such rain. Most plants respond with glorious flowering periods that transform the region to a carpet of purple and white. Consider that the average rainfall only about 2OOmm, and you can see why the plants and animals react to amazingly to the rain. Northern Territory Adventure Tours offer a 9 Day package to explore the entire Northern Territory for only A$875.OO. This includes all meals and accommodation but does not include beer...a product that most find works well with sunsets and open fires. If you book this tour over the net we will throw in a free tour to Litchfield National Park, valued at A$80.OO, and 5 hours free Internet use when in Perth. WOW! Down South DownunderThe South Western Regions of Western Oz offer some of the best beaches and surf in the world and spectacular geological formations to match those of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. The weather right now is at its peak in this region (27 degrees C with warm waters) and offers a contrast to the heat of the North right now. The Margaret River region is world famous for its surf and beaches, and also offers those of you into your fine wines a great variety of vineyards to sample. Other areas like the Valley of the Giants walk in Pemberton, the beautiful coastline of Albany, Esperance and its amazing beaches (honestly, it looks like it has snowed on the beach the sand is so WHITE. And it is not rare to see kangaroo's sunbathing on the beach), and Wave Rock in Hyden make to South - West of WA a place not to miss. West Coast Explorer offer an 8 day tour that includes everything for A$590.OO and this is the 'bees knees' of tours to the South West.
